John 15:5
Familiar Verse
Jesus says, “I am the vine; you are the branches.” The image places fruitfulness in a living relationship with Him, not in self-sufficiency.
Original Word
The Greek verb menō, often translated “abide” or “remain,” carries the ordinary sense of staying or continuing. In this passage, it describes ongoing dependence on Christ.
What We Usually Miss
The branch is not asked to manufacture fruit. It is called to remain in the vine. Jesus frames fruit as the result of abiding, not a substitute for it.
Buried Treasure
The invitation is not passivity; it is faithful nearness. A fruitful life grows from receiving Christ's words and continuing in Him.
